The paperwork

Kiwi Flame Hot comes with a Heat Liability Waiver. It's optional, it isn't legally binding, and it's very official-looking.

Coded Hot bottles aren't on sale yet. This is how it will work when they are.

How it works

  1. Get a coded bottle of Hot.

Coded bottles carry a gold seal with the code hidden underneath.

  2. Peel back the seal.

Underneath is a QR code, with the same code printed in letters and numbers. Peel it once the bottle's yours, not in the shop.

  3. Scan it with your phone camera.

The waiver opens in your browser. There's no app to download and no account to make.

  4. Read it, then sign.

Draw your signature with your finger, or type your name. Your signature stays on your phone.

  5. Pick your town.

One signed bottle is one point for that town in Town Wars.

  6. Keep the certificate.

Save it, share it or frame it. Every certificate has its own number.

The certificate

Sign the waiver and you get a numbered certificate to save or share, with your town on it and your signature if you drew one.

The name on it is up to you. Use your own, a nickname, or leave it blank. Every certificate also gets its own page, so you can send someone the link.

The fine print

Short, because nobody reads fine print.

  • It's a novelty. The waiver is for entertainment only. It isn't a legal liability waiver and it doesn't affect your rights under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act.
  • It's optional. Nobody has to sign anything to buy or eat Kiwi Flame Hot.
  • One bottle, one signature. Each code works once. After that it's spent.
  • Your signature stays on your phone. We keep the town, the date and time, and a display name only if you add one. Town Wars shows towns, never people.
  • It's not an eating challenge. Points come from signing, not from how much you eat. Use Kiwi Flame Hot like any hot sauce.

Code won't scan?

Type the printed code instead. It's the 16 letters and numbers under the QR code.

Do I have to sign the waiver to buy Hot?
No. The waiver is a bit of fun, and signing it is up to you. The sauce tastes the same either way.
Is the waiver legally binding?
No. It's a novelty certificate for entertainment only. It isn't a legal liability waiver and it doesn't affect your rights under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act.
How does the QR code on a Hot bottle work?
Coded bottles of Hot have a unique QR code hidden under the gold seal. Once the bottle's yours, peel the seal back and scan the code with your phone camera. It opens the waiver in your browser, with no app or account needed. Each bottle can be signed once.
My code won't scan, or the label's damaged.
There's a printed code under the seal as well. Type it in at kiwiflame.nz/redeem. If that doesn't work either, get in touch with a photo of the label and we'll sort it out.
My code says it's already been used.
Each bottle counts once, so a code that's been signed can't be signed again. If you think something's wrong, contact us and we'll look into it.
